About Me

Great to meet you! Hi there, I'm Briana and I am a LCSW in Indiana. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming; it is important to me to create a safe and contained space during sessions, no matter your identity or what you are experiencing. My passion for becoming a therapist is rooted in my own life experiences and mental health journey. My personal experiences have been both a source of struggle and a catalyst for growth, guiding me toward this path with a deep sense of empathy for the challenges my clients face. I approach my work with humility, knowing that I cannot fully understand every experience, and I am committed to learning from my clients. A bit about my approach to therapy: I empower people by helping them develop their strengths and tools to address stressors of life. Together, we will look at the whole picture to identify what you can change, what you can let go, and what you can move forward with. This is a safe space to explore your needs and wants, so you may become the best version of yourself. Whether you are coming here with general overwhelm, traumatic experiences, anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, mood swings, attention deficits, or relationship challenges, I'm here to help. What you can expect from our first session: I utilize evidence-based tools to help address your unhelpful automatic thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviors and help you develop short term and long term goals that fit your needs.

Education & Experience

I received my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) in May of 2020 from Indiana University - Bloomington, followed by my Master of Social Work (MSW) in May of 2021 from Indiana University - Indianapolis. While studying for my BSW, I worked in transitional housing for families who were survivors of domestic violence as a Crisis Intervention Specialist. Additionally, I worked as a Behavioral Health Technician in transitional housing for teens and young adults who were homeless and/or aging out of the foster care system. During my MSW program, I interned with Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) and received training and support from a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in an elementary school. While there, I supported students K-8th grade in classrooms, on an individual basis as well as with small groups. I coached them on emotional regulation skills, and ran a group for 5th grade boys who experienced behavioral challenges to help them develop their strengths to be successful as they move through their education. I also aided school staff by introducing and helping to facilitate avenues of feedback within the administration to ensure sufficient support was being provided to the teachers and faculty to improve their job satisfaction and retain valuable educators. For my first 2 years post-graduation, while I was earning my hours toward full clinical licensure, I worked as a school-based therapist with a community mental health agency. I provided individual therapy to kids from 4th through 6th grade, and conducted family therapy with them as well. I have gained invaluable knowledge from my peers, supervisors, and clients throughout all of my experiences, which I apply and continue to grow to this day. After receiving my LCSW certification, I decided to start my own private practice to work primarily with adults, with a focus on trauma - informed therapy interventions. This brought me to get trained in EMDR, which has become an indispensable part of my practice.
