About Me
Dr. Nouna Jalilzadeh is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Diagnostic Privilege, Nationally Certified Counselor, and an Assistant Professor at St. John's University. Nouna aims to create a safe and trusting space for clients to explore their lived experiences. She believes that the power of healing is within us, and in therapy sessions, we seek to find those powers and nurture them. Nouna comes from a Middle Eastern background and holds multicultural, social justice, and intersectionality of identity lenses in her counseling, academic, and supervisory approaches.
Education & Experience
Her experience includes working with adolescents, adults, and couples struggling with trauma, adjustment, anxiety, depression, and navigating relationship and racial issues. Nouna utilizes interventions from the school of humanistic, post-modern, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), as well as mindfulness and meditation. She is trained and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Perinatal Mental Health.
Professional & Volunteer Affiliations
Nouna is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), the New York Mental Health Counselors Association (NYMHCA), the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), and the Association for Multicultural Counseling & Development (AMCD). She holds certifications in Therapeutic Art, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Yoga and mindfulness, and Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP). Nouna holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with Counseling skills from Middlesex University, a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Molloy University, and a Doctoral Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Pace University.
