About Me
Hello, I am a licensed mental health counselor, an addiction specialist and trauma healer. When an individual is in crisis and reaches out for help the goal is always the same; to help and guide the way to healing, success, and growth. At this point in my career I am focusing on individual and couples therapy. To make a long story short, I am best to serve those struggling with a Trauma history that could benefit from therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Meditation, Mindfulness and Eastern/Buddhist Philosophies. There are many different forms of Trauma and many of them develop into PTSD, Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, and/or Addictions. Some types of trauma are; Big T trauma (physical abuse, sexual assault, military combat, violent assault, natural disaster), Little t trauma (breakup/divorce, loss of a pet, having to relocate, financial problems, bullying), medical trauma, relational trauma (abusive intimate relationships), attachment trauma (childhood emotional abuse and neglect). When old unhealthy coping skills don’t work to quiet the trauma anymore, this can be an extremely painful place to be. You hit your bottom and decide something has to change and you just don’t know where to start. There is hope, I have seen people change profoundly during the EMDR process. I hope you will reach out and tell me about what you are struggling with today and we can talk about how I can help you find inner peace and freedom from suffering.
Education & Experience
I have an MA in Mental Health Counseling from Marist College in Poughkeepsie NY My Counseling career started with adolescence using expressive arts therapy in the counseling session. It was a great job. I really loved those kids. Art is an amazing therapy tool for expressing emotions. I transitioned to working with adults in residential addiction treatment. Some of the facilities I was gifted to work at were Mountainside in Canaan, Ct, this is where my love for mindfulness and yoga started. I also learned a lot about adventure based counseling and how to counsel while on a high ropes course. I took a leap and was program director of a 24 bed residential program for Woman called Florence Manor, part of Mid Hudson Addiction and Recovery Centers (MARC). This is where a started my first on site Yoga program. I loved helping women get their lives back. I have experience running a detox for HONOR recovery and learned so much about severe mental health. I moved to Florida to work with an executive program called Headwaters at Hanley Center in West Palm Beach. I loved the team I worked with and have many fond memories of my time there. This is where I was trained in EMDR and I began to see the profound changes people would experience. EMDR takes the sting and charge out of traumatic experiences. They are no longer painful to talk about. During the Pandemic I moved to NC to live with one of my daughters. I continued to work with the executive population at Welwynn outpatient center in Raleigh, NC. Currently I have started a private practice, Insights - Center for Mindfulness and Psychotherapy in Wilmington, NC. Focusing on helping people heal from trauma and addictions in person and remotely. I am currently pending EMDR certification.
